Through visual and environmental design rooted in design thinking, I seek to enhance communication and experiences alongside those striving to create positive impact in our world.

The Design Thinking Process

My creative process is informed by the discipline of Design Thinking, also known as Human Centered Design. This approach provides a framework for creativity to flourish into innovative, on-target solutions that are rooted in understanding and intentionality. Its principles can scale from small-scope, quick-turnaround production, to long-term, in-depth research and creative development for complex problems.

  • Seek to identify core needs and goals of the project through research and empathy— move from intuitions & assumptions to informed understanding, and learn the perspectives & needs of who you’re designing for.

  • Crystallize understanding of the context, core needs, and goals of the project— identify patterns, themes, and connections in the research to conceptualize the overarching strategy and direction for the project.

  • Create choices. Dream up creative possibilities— good, bad, practical, and outlandish ideas are all fair game at this stage because “often an impractical idea scaled back slightly can become exactly the type of novel solution you’re looking for” when grounded in the needs of who you’re designing for.

  • Make choices. Critique, refine, and create iterations of ideas generated in ideation phase— toss out the bad and improve the good.

  • Use quality craftsmanship and design tools to make the developed idea into a reality.
