Streetscape Field Guide

The street scape field guide was designed to be a piece of “analogue augmented reality” that brings some of the benefits of being in nature to people who may have minimal access to spend time in the natural environment.

Invitation Towards Movement

When we are out in the wilderness, an innate sense of wonder and curiosity often encourages us to push our bodies physically as we eagerly seek the beauty waiting to be discovered ahead of us.

The field guide encourages us to look at even the most mundane surroundings through a similar lens—with an expectation for opportunity that pushes us to action.

Inspiration from the Skateboarding Community

One group of people that already has a knack for spotting the potential in seemingly drab and lifeless spots of the built environment is the skateboarding community. A dingy corner of the metropolis or even a bland stretch of suburbia can transform from just another patch of concrete monotony to a world of opportunity when searching for skate-able architecture for a line of new tricks and obstacles.

The Field Guide

If we peer through the transparent pages, the simple forms printed there become overlaid with our physical surroundings to help us envision new paths of adventure, whether by foot, skateboard, bicycle, or anything in between.
